THE CAUCASUS

TRIP 1 -- MOUNT ELBRUS ASCENT

DESCRIPTION:

  • A 10-Day ascent of the highest peak in Europe (5,642 m; 17,000 ft.). This is the most active area for climbing and mountaineering in Russia. You will be guided by our top experienced mountain guides in this region.

ASCENT SCHEDULE:

  • June 21st - June 30th -- Group leader Sultan Kashkarov
  • June 30th - July 9th -- Group leader Liza Pahl
  • June 12th - July 21st -- Group leaders Liza and Sasha Baidaev
  • July 21st - July 30th -- Group leaders Liza and Sasha Baidaev
  • August 2nd - August 11th -- Group leader Sultan Kashkarov
  • August 15th - August 24th -- Group leader Sultan Kashkarov
  • August 24th - September 2nd -- Group leader Yegor Churakov

COST:

  • The cost depends on the group size. The cost for individuals ( less then four persons in a party) is $930 per person.

ITINERARY:

  • Day 1.  Arrival at Mineralnyie Vody airport. Coach transfer to Baksan Valley ( 2 hours). Hotel "Volfram" ( *** ). Welcome dinner with the Mt. Elbrus guides.
  • Day 2.  Easy walk up to Azau gorge to the glacier end ( 3,000 m). Return to hotel.
  • Day 3.  Minibus lift up to Adylsu river gorge ( 40 minutes) and hike up to the Green Hotel Meadow ( 3,200 m). Return to hotel. Gear check, ascent prepare.
  • Day 4.  Minibus lift to the bottom of the "Mir" and then lift by funicular to the top of the "Mir" station ( 3,700 m). Hike up to Priut Of 11 mountain shelter place (4,200 m) - 2.5 hours. Overnight in the "Barrels" shelters.
  • Day 5.  Climb to the Pastukhov's Rocks ( 4,800 m). Return to the "Barrels". Overnight.
  • Day 6.  Climb mt.Elbrus ( 5.621 m). Return to the "Barrels". Overnight. There is a special optional snowcat track which can bring climbers up to Pastukhov Rock. That will save time for the climb, but may be dangerous for the acclimatization process.
  • Day 7.  Reserve day for the second attempt.
  • Day 8.  Descent down to the "Mir" station. Return to hotel.
  • Day 9.  Rest and leisure. Farewell dinner.
  • Day 10.  Coach transfer to Mineralnyie Vody. Departure.
